What is Mental Health Awareness Week?
Mental Health Awareness Week is Monday 18th – Sunday 24th May 2020 run by the Mental Health Foundation. The campaign has been running for one week in May since 2001. The campaign reaches millions of people every year. This year, the campaign is Kindness
This is a cause which is very close to my heart and I think it is so important to talk about feelings, look after yourself mentally as well as physically and end any stigma associated with Mental Health.
What the Mental Health Foundation Say..
‘We have chosen kindness because of its singular ability to unlock our shared humanity, Kindness strengthens relationships, develops community and deepens solidarity, it is a cornerstone of our individual and collective mental health.’
Praise to the Kindness
I think we can all share this story about Captain Tom Moore, 100 years of age, who walked around his garden 100 times to raise money for the NHS, it still gives me goose bumps watching the videos! From the nation, we salute you Captain Tom Moore!
Ways to get involved
Firstly, we know with the current situation with COVID 19, everyone has mixed emotions and feelings, so it is so important not to overdo it. If you find yourself doing too much, think about taking a step back and take some time to focus on yourself.
We have been thinking of ways to help lift spirits and keep in contact with loved ones. Below are some of the things we are doing to spread kindness:
- Send someone a joke/meme to cheer them up
- Arrange a virtual catch up with friends or family (Perhaps try wine tasting with loved ones!)
- Attend a virtual quiz
- Send an interesting article to a friend
- Check up on someone you know is feeling low
- Tell a family member how much you love them
- Call a long-lost friend
Spreading kindness doesn’t have to be about spending money or going out of your way to do a huge gesture, it’s the little things that count!
During this week we will be adding photos to our social media accounts which reflect kindness with the hashtags #KindnessMatters #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. Why don’t you join us? We would love to see what snaps you come up with!
From us to you; stay safe & be kind <3
